Vivian – No longer a victim of child labor, and now back in school!

Vivian is an amazing little girl – she’s probably the smartest girl in our Saturday Bible school. If you give her a chapter of the Bible she can memorize it all perfectly and recite it back to you without error. She’s also a very joyful little girl and very competitive. Back in March we noticed she was not attending our Saturday program, did some investigation, and learned she was working against her will night and day seven days a week to help support her family. In exchange for this “work” she was receiving only $5 dollars a week for her time. Not to mention the house she was staying at had three middle-aged single men living there – really a dangerous situation for a young girl to be in. We talked to the mother, tactfully shared with her this was illegal and very dangerous for Vivian, and shared with her that we would personally sponsor Vivian and pay all costs to get her back in school. We also discussed providing food to the family as we are able. You can see in this photo the joy in Vivian’s eyes to have her uniform and supplies and be back in school and living life as a normal young girl should be able to live. During the time when she was working she was very sad and depressed and not the normal joy girl we were used to seeing. But within a week or so of being back in school we noticed that she was regaining her joy. We recently visited Vivian and her school classroom and her teacher says she is doing very well and is among the top of the class in behavior and grades. Guess what Vivian wants to be when she grows up? A teacher. All glory to the Lord that we were able to rescue at least one before the enemy could affect her destiny and bring destruction to her life. There are so many more here in Honduras in similar situations.
